Estimate money spent on cigarettes

Enter your average smoking cost and how long you have smoked to estimate past spending. The calculator also projects what continuing at today's cost could add over the next one, five, and ten years.

Formula and limitations

Estimated past spend = average daily cost × 365 × years smoked. At an average of 9 per day for eight years, the simple estimate is 26,280. Tobacco prices and smoking patterns change, so use a realistic historical average rather than today's price if you want a better past-cost estimate. The figure excludes lighters, travel, health costs, and investment returns.

Focus on the next amount you can keep

Past spending cannot be recovered, but future spending can change. Use the result as a baseline, then calculate a forward goal with Savings Goal From Quitting or start tracking from a quit date in My Quit Journey.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is lifetime cigarette spending?

It is an estimate based on the average daily cost and number of years you enter. Price and usage changes make exact totals difficult.

Should I use today's pack price?

Use today's price for future projections. For past spending, a historical average is more representative.

Does it include healthcare costs?

No. It estimates direct cigarette spending only.
