Pack Reduction Planner
Plan gradual cigarette reduction and estimate savings along the way.
Build a cigarette reduction schedule
Set your current cigarettes per day, target daily amount, and target date to get the reduction pace required. The planner turns a broad goal such as “smoke less” into a measurable daily or weekly step.
Reduction formula
Total reduction = current daily cigarettes − target daily cigarettes. The planner spreads that difference across the time available. Moving from 20 to 5 cigarettes per day over five weeks requires an average reduction of three cigarettes per day each week. Real life rarely follows a perfect line, so adjust the schedule if a step is too large.
Use reduction as a plan, not a safety claim
Smoking fewer cigarettes can lower spending, but there is no safe level of smoking. If your goal is to stop completely, add a quit date in the quit plan and seek evidence-based support from a clinician or quit service. Track the financial effect with the smoking cost calculator.
Frequently asked questions
How quickly should I reduce cigarettes?
The tool shows the mathematical pace for your chosen date. A healthcare professional can help you choose an appropriate cessation plan.
Can my target be zero cigarettes?
Yes. Set the target to zero to model a gradual path toward a quit date.
Is cutting down the same as quitting?
No. The planner is a behaviour and budgeting aid; complete cessation removes exposure to cigarette smoke.
